Inspirational Mentorships at LLamasoft

By Rebecca Janowiak  January 31, 2019

Mentorships are important because they provide a safe environment for discussion and guidance that can often go both ways between mentor and mentee to strengthen leadership, networking, and interpersonal skills.  They also help break down barriers and encourage cross-team discussions. I have had several mentor/mentee relationships over the years, and every discussion opens my eyes to new perspectives and challenges my thinking.  I helped start the mentorship program at LLamasoft with the goal to encourage others to learn from people, and to continually ignite a passion for growth at all levels across career growth, leadership, and personal goals. I hope you enjoy meeting some of the mentors/mentees at LLamasoft who are taking time develop themselves and others both professionally and personally. – Rebecca Janowiak, Director of Solution Design and creator of LLamasoft’s mentorship program.

Q: Why do you think mentorships are important?

A: We all need to have trusted advisors throughout our careers to help navigate our direction. It’s extremely helpful to have someone to bounce ideas and thoughts off of, as well as just talk about the daily things we are facing in our careers.

Q: What do you hope to gain from your mentor/mentee relationship?

A: I hope to be able to provide value as a mentor in any way that the mentee that I am working with is looking for in our discussions. I also will, and have, benefited from getting to know my mentee. It’s great to step away from my day to day responsibilities and have meaningful discussions about the business, career, and life in general.

Kelsey Partin, Community Program Manager

Q: Why do you think mentorships are important?

A: I’ve been lucky to have many great leaders manage me in the past and I’ve learned about them for a lot in my professional growth and development. But having somebody to speak with outside your chain of command is invaluable in being able to see things from a different perspective or gain insights from outside your own department. Instead of focusing on more tactical items that are related to your day-to-day work, having a mentor outside your own department can allow you to focus on broader professional development goals.

Q: What do you hope to gain from your mentor/mentee relationship?

A: I’d like to focus on my professional development, specifically growing my leadership and management skills. I also want to ensure I keep my foot on the gas and continue to push myself, and to do that it’s helpful to talk about long-term aims and goals that relate to strategic company objectives.

Q: What do you hope to gain from your mentor/mentee relationship?

A: As she is relatively new to LLamasoft and most recently worked in a completely different industry, I have been very interested to hear Rasha’s perspective on our company,  our culture, traditions, etc. Speaking more generally, I think these relationships are important as they are a way that we can support one another, learn from each other’s perspective and experiences, and ultimately end up with a stronger herd of LLamas and a stronger LLamasoft.

Rasha Luice –  Business Applications Tech

A: I believe that mentorships programs are important for several reasons, one is to create a more engaging environment in the company.  And it helps with gain professional and practical advice, support and social confidence. Probably make new friends and increase our circle of network.

Q: What do you hope to gain from your mentor/mentee relationship?

A: I hope I can gain more experience in professional growth. And to learn from others experience and improve communication and personal skills. I also look forward to learning more about the company’ culture!

Serena and Kaleigh

Serena Riley – Customer Experience Manager, Senior

Q: Why do you think mentorships are important?

A: Mentorships aide in personal and professional growth. For mentors, without investing in the learning and development of others, we’re missing an opportunity to reflect on our learnings that can better someone else. For mentees, this is an invaluable way to lessen the learning curve of a new position or environment, make connections with others and evaluate different perspectives on challenges.

Q: What do you hope to gain from your mentor/mentee relationship?

A: Fostering a genuine and meaningful relationship. One where we can openly share our stories, struggles, successes, and diversity of thought without judgment. One that results in an experience that ultimately benefits both participants.

Kaleigh O’Brien – Product Marketing Manager

Q: Why do you think mentorships are important?

A: Mentorship is important to me because it facilitates relationships with people outside of my day-to-day work environment. Having someone with experience and knowledge that I can use as a sounding board for ideas and career advice has been invaluable. My mentor also provides a new perspective on my problems and offers solutions that I may not have thought of.

Q: What do you hope to gain from your mentor/mentee relationship?

A: My mentor provides advice when I need it, encouragement to help keep me going, and resources and connections that will help me propel my career.

Q: Why do you think mentorships are important?

A: Mentorships are important because it provides you with perspectives from peers that you would normally not be able to gain. It gives you the ability to leverage other people’s knowledge and to help you bounce ideas off of to better support your personal and professional growth.

Q: What do you hope to gain from your mentor/mentee relationship?

A: I find a lot of joy in helping others and if I can be a sounding board and help give my mentee any suggestions to help advance themselves, then to me that is a huge gain. I am humbled by the fact that I have been asked to be a mentor both formally and informally through this program and I am looking forward to building lasting relationships with my LLama family!

Cassie Wang – Senior Consultant

Q: Why do you think mentorships are important?
